What To Buy Newly Weds

Traditionally, wedding gifts are to help the newlyweds set up their first home together. With more and more couples getting married after living together for some time, the tradition has been binned and most couples now ask for a contribution to their honeymoon. But, should you skip the tradition? What about buying them a gift they didn’t know they wanted!?

Having just got engaged, I’ve been thinking more and more about wedding gifts and gift registries etc. The idea of money is always appealing for the modern couple. Especially with the expense of a modern day wedding wiping out the possibility of a honeymoon in the near future… However, gift giving is something I absolutely love doing and for once I tend to lean toward tradition and buy homeware.

To me a gift is something that is not only thoughtful, but truly indulgent. Something the receiver would never buy for themselves. A gift should never bought for the sake of giving something.

With wedding season about to start up again and as someone who is quite specific about their home, I’ve put together a list of items that I would be thrilled to be gifted as a newlywed. I hope that it inspires you to go back to tradition!

for the spa lovers
An Aromatherapy Diffuser

Make their home a reminder of a special holiday (honeymoon!) or their favourite spa by buying a diffuser and essential oils. Select oils to represent their personalities, or if you know the specific scents they like go for those! If in doubt, buy a gift set of a dozen different bottles and let them mix their own. Do they have a home assistant device, like an Echo, Alexa or Google Home? Some diffusers can be managed vocally through these devices or remotely - just looks for ‘Smart’ diffusers. My favourite diffuser and scent range at the moment is the Neom range…so elegant and perfect as a wedding gift.

for the discerning
A Le Labo Candle or Room Scent

Le Labo is one of my most recent loves. I adore anything in their Santal scent (the smell of old leather bound books bottled!) or Thé Noir. As well as fragrance, the brand offers ‘Oddities’ like scented lightbulbs (!), candles, room fragrance and even laundry detergent.

for the eclectic
Tom Dixon Cocktail-ware

Tom Dixon homeware feels indulgent, even the packaging is quite clearly luxe! So many of their items make the perfect gift; I especially like their cocktail and wine collection, with 3 collections of glassware, decanters and trays. If I had to pick, I’d opt for a glamourous Ice Bucket or Smoke decanter.
